“I don’t see any point to celebrating Easter.” David told his brother over the phone while staring out his window at the busy city street below. His place was a small bachelor apartment over a tiny corner grocery store. It was a far cry from his grandparent's farm, which he always seemed to pine for around spring. “Wasn’t this your favorite holiday?” Mel asked him, and David sighed, feeling burned out from working two jobs for a crappy place in a large city that didn’t seem to want them. “Yeah, but things change.” David said, shrugging and watching the start of a spring rain hitting the window. He used to decorate and go all out to celebrate and invite the Easter rabbit into his home. Up until a few years ago, when he moved into the city, he had always found hidden eggs around his place. It always made him so happy. It was probably his brother, David, who shivered with a bitter cold that was soaking into his permanently sun-kissed skin that made him feel like he should be warmer

A Heart Divided Chapter 2
Chapter 2 Building Bridges I woke to find that I was back near where my families wagon was. I was a little ways away and I had been covered with a large wolf skin. It was warm and had a pleasant almost smokey smell as though it had spent a lot of time near open fires. I found myself wanting to nuzzle into it’s warmth when I heard shouting and panicked voices. I suddenly heard my name being called. I stood picking up the pelt with me, then dropping it feeling a twinge of panic surge through me. If they saw me with this and with my disheveled appearance they’ll either think that I have sided with the natives or that I was attacked and they’ll go looking for any natives they could find, and kill them. I shuddered at the thought of my captor...no my rescuer being slain because of me. I dropped down quickly before I could be spotted and hid the hide in some nearby bushes, covering it slightly with leaves. I then Stood and brushed myself off and slowly made my way to my
Dusk just did it, without any idea of what he was doing. His long robe attempted to entwine itself around his legs as he ran down the hill, but it flew away behind him. It must have been quite the sight, arms raised and wildly spinning, but he threw away his dignity. They needed him, his mates. It was the first time for him since this mate bond had been discussed since he first met them. He sensed them. Dusk felt a chill run down his spine as he realized Micah was the source of his cold fear. I will be there. Without knowing how or if it would work, Dusk shouted in his head. An intense rage that boiled inside of him made his heart race. Not like Micah's fear, and unlike anything he had ever experienced before. He sensed Pyrite's rage. It was not good, whatever was going on. Not if it knocked down the school, which was still tumbling like rain and falling in small pieces. He disregarded the fragments that fell upon him. The range of emotions he was processing was far more intense
The leadership class is straight-forward. Everyone was given a summary of the year's lesson plans. Mr. Rock directed anyone whose eyes lingered toward their books with a stern cough and glare. The overview was strange; to say the least, there are seven stages for first years. The first one is the art of praise. Dusk had not expected to see that one. Responsibility, setting an example, and discipline all made sense. Knowing your business, he could start working on that right away. Although surprised that Micah had not yet arrived, Dusk left the class with a sense of optimism. Pyrite took him to his home studies class without mentioning Mr. Summerset in any way. In actuality, it seemed as though nothing at all had happened. Dusk should not be, but he was surprised by Pyrite's ability to conceal so much feeling. It was evident that Dusk had only been acquainted with him for a short period of time beneath that cheerful face and swaying tail. Dusk, however, discovered that his heart was

“Hello!” Unexpectedly, an elf with dark skin and green eyes appeared in front of them. Right, have they arrived at the school's main entrance using the teleportation token. Dusk sucked in a breath, and Micah gave a small, startled scream. Between them and the elf, pyrite formed a barrier. On Pyrite's shoulder, Word inflated into a larger-than-usual featherball. The two presented an intimidating image. Although neither of them frightened Dusk, the energy they exuded made the other students give them a wide berth. The elf might have done that. Dusk thought. “Are you Dusk?” The elf's cheery question rang through the air. “And Word, was it?” Word crouched down and hissed. "Salty little thing, is it hard for you to keep that form?" When the elf raised a hand, Pyrite's arm intervened to prevent Word from squeezing the elf's fingers. “Who are ya?” Pyrite growled, but he did so while resting one hand on his hip and leaving the other hanging loose. Pyrite had tense arms and a rigid back, and
He turned, his thoughts racing. How? Dusk took a look at the woman in front of him. How? Her waist-length black hair fell in ringlets. A black fan feathering her lower face. She did not look like she could be a mother—her pale skin was flawless, and her thin brows arched defiantly. She shouldn't be a mother. Every breath felt thin and difficult for Dusk to inhale, causing him to choke back his breath. Such an unpleasant little place. She stood out when she took a look around. There was a calm and happy atmosphere all around them. She was so dark that a cloak-like shadow appeared to fall around her, destroying everything Dusk had liked about the location. Even the atmosphere that once attracted him. He was swiftly sent back in time. Her aura had made his day miserable. He was unable to concentrate because his mind was racing with ideas. He had no idea how this was possible. How was she able to cross the border? How did she discover his location? His world was torn apart, and questions
